Scratch Film Junkies

Let’s see...I have learned some experimental things that summer and I didn’t imagine how it worked until now in class. I'm taking experimental this semester also. So I'm sort of getting there.

When I learned how to scratch and sand the filmstrip, it got me thinking that that is how it works. In fact, it was my first time to try to play around the filmstrip, with frame by frame...It was interesting.

After seeing films of Brankhage and others, I thought they didn’t make any sense. They just showed art and stuff. But I liked the way the clips of old home videos are set with any shapes in front of them. I pretty much liked the handpainting and I liked that it had shown fast movement which made me feel the beat to it. Same as the colors run around and around in a fast paced way. Lots of repetitions of home videos.

Even though I’m hearing impaired, I can hear any sounds such as drums or boom or whatever, except familiar words coming out of someone’s mouth. The music in Dante Quartet sounds interesting –fast beat, lots of drums, I believe. I watched the lines dancing and they were following the sounds that were perfectly matched..like boom boom, the same rhythms.

I liked weird things out of nowhere. I can't wait to learn some more. :)
